Operational Awareness for Advanced Firefighters & Fire Behaviour Analysts

If you hear a warning of Vorticity-driven Lateral Spread occurring in your sector, it is imperative that your crews focus on safe egress only. This is a Red Flag Warning situation (Vorticity-driven Lateral Spread event}.
Operations personnel are unlikely to detect Vorticity-driven Lateral Spread occurring – it will be field or aerial observers who do so. Make sure that they are tasked to do this during fires in rugged landscapes with ambient winds over 25 km/hr and low fuel moisture content.
