Operational Awareness for Advanced Firefighters & Fire Behaviour Analysts

On undulating terrain fire crews have different skills, centred around suppression opportunities when fires back down leeward slopes. They also recognise the dangers of the hot fire runs up the windward slopes and resulting spotting.
There is a need to have fire analysts assessing the complexities of fire behaviour, especially in relation to timing and spotting potential.

The safety of a fire crew, and their ability to achive their assigned tasks depends on having a sound understanding of terrain effects.

This website is dedicated to bringing forward the latest research findings. They are provided to allow firefighters to be made aware of critical safety issues ahead of the material being included in the national training curriculum.
